1.

COMBINE flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.

CUT in butter until in very small particles; STIR in whole wheat flour and rolled oats.

MAKE A WELL in center; ADD buttermilk; STIR lightly but thoroughly until all flour is moistened.

4.

TURN out onto a lightly floured board; KNEAD five times.

5.

GATHER into a ball; PLACE on lightly greased cookie sheet; PAT into 7-inch circle.

6.

Using a sharp knife, CUT a large cross on top to allow for expansion.

7.

BAKE at 375 F for 40 minutes or until browned and hollow sounding.

8.

PLACE on rack and brush with melted butter.
