In a large bowl, CREAM butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

ADD eggs, one at a time, BEATING well after each addition; BEAT in buttermilk and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, COMBINE flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda; gradually ADD, while BEATING, to creamed mixture.
4.
FOLD in apples and walnuts.
5.
Pour into a greased 9x5-inloaf pan.
6.
HEAT oven to 350°.
Topping
1.
In a mixing bowl, COMBINE sugar, flour and cinnamon; CUT in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
2.
SPRINKLE evenly over batter.

BAKE at 350° until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 55-60 minutesLet COOL for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack.
