In a small saucepan, ADD salt to water; bring to a BOIL; slowly WHISK in polenta, being careful to avoid clumping.
2.
REDUCE heat to low; SIMMER, adding butter; continue to WHISK until mixture starts to thicken.
3.
COVER; COOK for 35 minutes, STIRRING every 5 minutes to avoid sticking to pan.
4.
TURN off heat; STIR in cream cheese.
