1.

In a saucepan over medium-high heat, BRING water to a boil; ADD butter and/or salt if desired.

2.

Slowly ADD rice; RETURN to boil, STIRRING lightly.

3.

REDUCE heat; COVER; SIMMER for 15 minutes.

4.

REMOVE from heat; let STAND for 5 minutes; UNCOVER; FLUFF with fork; SERVE.
