In mixing bowl, BEAT shortening while ADDING sugar; ADD eggs one at a time, BEATING well.
2.
COMBINE flour and salt; ADD portions of flour/salt mixture alternatively with milk, MIXING until just blended after each addition; STIR in coconut and walnuts.
3.
SCOOP mixture into a greased/floured tube pan.
4.
BAKE in a 325 F oven for 1 hour and 25 minutes.
5.
Allow to COOL for 15 minutes before removing from pan.
