PREHEAT oven to 450 F.

In an oiled 9-inch baking dish, ARRANGE tomato slices, slightly overlapping.

SPRINKLE with salt, pepper and basil.

In a small skillet over moderate heat, HEAT olive oil; ADD garlic; COOK, stirring, until fragrant, about one minute.

5.

REMOVE from heat; STIR in bread crumbs, cheese, salt and pepper; SPRINKLE over tomatoes.

6.

BAKE in middle of oven until bread crumbs are golden, about 15 to 20 minutes.
