SAUTÉ mushrooms in butter/margarine until tender and cooked; DRAIN off excess liquid; SET aside.

PREPARE linguini according to package directions; DRAIN.

Meanwhile, in a sauté pan, MELT butter with garlic; STIR in the cream cheese, BREAKING up with a spoon as it melts; STIR in parsley and basil.
4.
SIMMER until mixture is a "lumpy mess," about 5 minutes; STIR in just enough of the boiling water to get the mixture to be "creamy"; MIX until smooth.
5.
ADD cooked shrimp and sautéed mushrooms; HEAT through.
6.
TOSS with cooked linguini;TOP each serving with grated cheese; SERVE.
