In a 3-quart saucepan, COMBINE sugar, syrup and water; COOK over medium-low heat, STIRRING constantly, until sugar dissolves.

COVER mixture; COOK over medium heat three minutes to wash down sugar crystals from sides of pan.

3.

ADD peanuts; COOK until mixture reaches hard crack stage (300F), STIRRING occasionally.

4.

REMOVE from heat; STIR in butter, vanilla, baking soda and salt.

5.

Working quickly, POUR candy mixture into a buttered 15 X 10 X 1-inch jelly-roll pan; SPREAD to edges of pan.

6.

Let COOL completely; BREAK into pieces.
