Directions

1.

COMBINE flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in mixing bowl; CUT in shortening till mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

2.

MIX egg and milk; ADD all at once to flour mixture; STIR just till moistened.

3.

To make streusel for muffins: COMBINE brown sugar, chopped pecans or walnuts, flour, ground cinnamon, and melted butter or margarine.

4.

PLACE half of batter in greased muffin pans; SPRINKLE streusel mixture over, then TOP with remaining batter, filling pans 1/2 full.

5.

BAKE at 350°, about 20 minutes.

1. May substitute walnuts for pecans
