BLEND first four dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
In a small bowl, BEAT egg yolks with a fork; ADD milk and oil, STIRRING thoroughly.
ADD liquids to flour mixture and STIR until blended but still slightly lumpy; gently FOLD in egg whites.
BEAT egg whites until soft peaks form; ADD sugar and continue BEATING until glossy; BEAT in vanilla.
POUR batter onto preheated, lightly greased waffle maker; use manufacturer's recommended amount of batter (approx 3/4 cup for our waffler).
CLOSE lid quickly and cook until steam stops escaping (about 3 minutes for our waffler); REMOVE and serve.
To hold waffles, set directly on rack in 200 F oven; do not stack. Remove after 5 to 20 minutes. Serve with a thick syrup, such as Karo.
For a crisper waffle, substitute 1/4 cup cornstarch for 1/4 cup flour. For a more flavorful waffle, sustitute 1 cup of buttermilk for 1 cup of milk.
